French Living

, Nottingham, United Kingdom

Scraping into budget by virtue of the ‘winter menu’, three courses for £15.50, French Living, hidden away down a spiral staircase, was Nottingham EC’s third outing. Aided by our French speaking dining companion, who could’ve been ordering anything, service was efficient. Food was good quality, decent portions and tasty, although choice on the set menu was not huge, pudding does deserves a special mention. Menus (apparently) change regularly to suit the season, with a wider choice available on the more expensive main menu. Décor was simple, and perhaps in need of touching up. Overall a nice meal and decent value.

The Mandarin

, Nottingham, United Kingdom

The first Nottingham EC was a small affair. Despite the abrupt greeting (due to our non-booking), the Mandarin proved a good choice. The usually plain décor was suitably festive, and crackers were a definite bonus. Getting the waiter’s attention on this busy evening was a challenge, but once we did, all requests were delivered swiftly. We opted for the set menu (mixed starters and three different main courses), and found the food to be satisfying and tasty. A minor misunderstanding with the tea meant this was rather more plentiful than intended. All in all, good value for nice food.
