Rupali's
Indian, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom
Famed in Viz and apparently the Guinness Book of records this is an event curry house with the world hottest curry available. The surprise was the range on the menu with every major Asian culture represented. The Malay curry with bananana was a real treat, other dishes were well flavoured rather than over hot, (Conor even had some madras) the rice portions are not generous but add a nann and hungry bellies will be filled. Service was brisk but we were about the only people in. Currently running the Walker’s Crisps promotion making this a cheap night.
Big Luke's
American, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom
After visiting this all you can eat American (?) buffet Dr Atkins said no more meat for me. The emphasis is quantity of protein rather than excellence in service or taste. Saying that the chilli was pleasant enough and the pizza provided variety. Decorated by someone on a budget who had to buy everything in the metro centre. Do not take your red hot date here unless they have the eating habits of a wart hog and the appetite of starving hippo. Do take a group of noisy hungry drivers. £5.99 all you can eat!
Santana's
Italian, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom
Small and dark, the model of a family run Italian restaurant. The choice is wide and the prices are cheap including the house wine. Easily possible to have three courses for under £15 the starters and sweets are standard rather than special, the chocolate moose disappointingly didn’t have antlers, but the main courses had real quality and quantity. Stick close to Italian classics such as Cannelloni for the best grub. Recommended when you need some comfort and can’t be bothered to cook. Make sure there is a women in the party for the best service.
Pani's
Italian, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom
Bigger than it appears from the front larger parties find themselves in the dark place at the back of the building. A safe menu has few surprises but all the classics are here, avoid the pasta with mussels if you don’t like too many shells. Highlight appeared to be the sausage casserole which served up a piece of meat none of the girls complained about. Service didn’t sparkle but a couple would get sat in the front with the pretty waiting staff and better décor. Well positioned for town, well worth a visit by small groups.
